One of the toughest parts of my work here is to help host service teams that come to do short term projects with us. On this particular occasion my task was to accompany the team to Tikal, the myan ruins in the Northern part of Guatemala. We had an absolute blast wondering through the jungle and learning a bit of history. The enormous temples are absolutely mind boggling. The best part is the view from the top after you climb aproxamately 13 flights of stairs to get there. You might recognize the view from Star Wars.
View from temple 4 of temples 1, 2, and 5
Temple 1 "the grand jaguar"
One of the most incredible parts of the trip was hearing the howler monkeys. If you didn't know better, you might think a lion was ready to feast...but in fact they are just tiny little guys.
I couldn't get the one with a view of the monkeys to work so this will have to do...
If the trip wasn't amzing enough at that, we decided to top it off with a little zip-lining through the jungle....as close to Tarzan as you can get! Speaking spanish and making friends with the guide served me well. He let me turn my harness around backwards and go down two of the lines like superman -- quite the view!
So, its a rough job at times....but somebody's got to do it!
