Love Guatemala - Women In Action

Women in Action is a local Guatemalan ministry sponsored by the Canadian mission Love Guatemala.  We have been working with this ministry for the past year and are so excited about what they are doing.  It a cooperative of single and widowed women.  The ministry works to teach them marketable skills to help sustain their families.  The women also put their profits towards the food needed to provide a meal three times a week to nearly 100 children.  Keep these women and their children in your prayers.  Also pray for Christina and Manual, the Guatemalan couple leading this ministry.  Pray that God would give them abundant wisdom, patience and creativity to reach these folks with the love of Christ!

The Missionary Heart

This was written by a young woman who was murdered in Iraq as she served as a missionary.  I pray that I too can serve the Lord with such abandon.

Dear Pastor,

You should only be opening this letter in the event of my death.
When God calls there are no regrets. I tried to share my heart with you as much as possible,
my heart for the nations. I wasn’t called to a place; I was called to Him. To obey was my objective,
to suffer was expected, His glory my reward, His glory my reward…

The missionary heart:
Cares more than some think is wise
Risks more than some think is safe
Dreams more than some think is practical
Expects more than some think is possible
I was called not to comfort or to success, but to obedience…
There is no joy outside of knowing Jesus and serving Him.
I love you and my church family.
In His care,
Salaam, Karen

How to Pray for Missionaries by David Wang

“Don’t come, please. At least, not yet,” I said to the prospective missionary family. So critical is intercessory prayer to the success of missionaries on foreign fields. I recently asked this young family to mobilize 20 people to pray for them, even before they applied to join Asian Outreach as missionaries.

The couple were initially surprised at my insistence on this condition. But as I explained my reasons for doing so, I could sense that they were beginning to see their need for prayer warriors. Just the week before I had met with them, we learned of a missionary family being kidnapped in the region they were wanting to go to.

This was not an isolated incident. Almost on a yearly basis, missionaries are being captured, kidnapped or even killed in that part of the world. And here I had this beautiful, enthusiastic family preparing to go to the same area to serve their Lord and His people.

Invading Enemy Territory

The battle we face is a spiritual conflict. It must be fought and won by men and women of God who are willing to intercede for missionary families as they invade enemy territory held uncontested for centuries. Satan does not meekly give up his prey. He counterattacks fiercely in many unexpected ways. The missionary must have intercessors who stand alongside, praying on a regular and systematic basis...
